3 DIFFERENT WAYS TO EXPERIENCE THE MALDIVES

If you’ve ever thought planning a trip to the Maldives sounds like a daunting task, we get it. In addition to its famous combination of white sand and turquoise water, the destination comprises roughly 1,200 islands, hundreds of resorts and hotels, and endless “unique” experiences. We don’t blame you for feeling overwhelmed!

When trying to narrow things down, one approach we find handy is to ask our clients what kind of Maldives trip they visualise themselves having. Generally, there are three main ways to experience the Maldives – island, overwater, and liveaboard.

We suggest closing your eyes and picturing yourself on holiday in the tropical hot spot. Are you sipping champagne on a luxury yacht? Are you reading a book on your own private stretch of beach, toes curled in the whitest sand you’ve ever seen? Are you watching the marine life through the glass floor of your villa?

With this information, we can help you plan the perfect Maldives itinerary for your preferences and budget but before we dive in, here’s a little more information about each travel style.

ISLAND

The Maldives is a chain of thousands of islands and sandbanks, which are grouped in atolls. Some islands are populated; some are just tiny blips of sand in an otherwise uninterrupted stretch of azure water. Some are ‘local’ islands, which means they are inhabited by Maldivians and there are no accommodation offerings in sight; and a huge chunk of them are occupied by resorts.

The Maldives is renowned for its ‘one island, one resort’ concept, where one solitary resort or hotel takes up an entire island. It’s part of the destination’s appeal, as it makes the resorts feel more exclusive!

An “island” experience in the Maldives refers to accommodation that is land based, as opposed to over water (which we’ll get to shortly). There are still plenty of variations within this category to choose from and the offerings differ significantly between different resorts. For example, there are ‘garden’ rooms, ‘beach’ rooms, ‘beachfront’ rooms… the list goes on.

The type of island room you choose will depend on your personal preferences, however, we find that most people opt for beachfront, to really soak up the incomparable setting. Besides, you can stay in a garden room anywhere in the world, right?

One of the main benefits of island rooms is their direct access to the country’s famous beaches. You can roll out of bed onto the white sand and into the water, and usually the stretch of beach out the front of your villa is nice and private.

They’re also closer to the resort’s other facilities, including restaurants, bars, and entertainment precincts, so if your idea of a good holiday is mingling with other guests, soaking up the vibe, and sipping cocktails by the pool, the island options are for you.

OVERWATER

We’ve all seen the Instagram pics of stunning villas suspended over the bluest water imaginable, and we can all agree they look like something out of a dream!

There are heaps of overwater options in the Maldives these days, so if you have your heart set on waking up to the sound of water lapping beneath you, we can help you find one that is budget friendly.

The best thing about rooms in this category is obviously the direct, unparalleled access to the tantalising turquoise water they offer. Feel like snorkelling? No problem, walk down the steps off your deck straight into the lagoon. Want to watch the sun set over the water from your infinity pool? You know what to do.

Some resorts (think Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani) even boast slides that transport you from your sprawling deck into the cool water below – and trust us, there’s no better way to enter the lagoon.

Overwater rooms are usually more secluded from the rest of the island and the main hub than their on-island counterparts. Often, you’ll need bikes or buggies to get around, or be prepared for lots of walking. Then again, most resorts offer incredible in-room dining options, so you never have to leave the comfort of your own room if you don’t want to!

LUXURY YACHT

If a sea safari through the region’s pristine waters and coral reefs sounds like your cup of tea, the Maldives is also home to a handful of impeccable luxury yachts that offer different experiences, accommodation levels and facilities.

Essentially floating resorts, these vessels include customisable staff including personal chefs, dive and surf instructors, sommeliers and private spa therapists.

Renting an entire vessel for your private party is the perfect high-end way to experience the Maldives, especially if you like the idea of holidaying in paradise without any crowds.

THE 5 HOTTEST RESORTS IN THE MALDIVES TO BOOK, RIGHT NOW!

PATINA_MALDIVES_LIFESTYLE_PORTICO-LOBBY_01.jpg

1. PATINA MALDIVES

A destination in itself, this is the hottest new opening in the Maldives. Patina is the latest luxury resort to open and is, put simply, a sophisticated sensory masterpiece. This is the baby sister of Capella (so you know it’s going to be GOOD!) More than 12 F&B outlets, beach club vibes and interactive music programs. We love that they cater well to families and even offer kids 12 and under complimentary scuba lessons. We also have a lot of time for the modern and sleek design of the villas. They have bathtubs and a hammock on the deck… We mean, take our money!!!

20731_Soneva Fushi - Floating Breakfast.jpg

2. SONEVA FUSHI

You may be used to Soneva Jani dominating the over-water villa space, but while you were sleeping, Soneva Fushi launched their incredible new Water Retreats with slides straight into the ocean. And as if this castaway paradise wasn’t already teeming with once-in-a-lifetime things to do, they’re about to launch a zipline dining experience. Because of course they are! As we always say to clients, Soneva is unlike any other resort, anywhere else in the world. It’s not a resort, it’s an experience.

Joali Maldives Addicted to Maldives

3. JOALI

This beauty delivers unconventional luxury and magically infuses you with the overwhelming feeling that time is standing still. Everything you could possibly want or need is at your fingertips, and here, the impressive team get the balance of being “attentive but not intrusive” so right! The resort is set on an entirely natural island, complete with its own incredibly beautiful sandbar. Barefoot strolls with the water lapping either side of your feet is an absolute DREAM! For the creative souls, there are various artworks and installations dotted around this art immersive island.

Ritz Carlton Fari Islands Addicted to Maldives

4. RITZ CARLTON FARI ISLANDS

Reflecting a design concept of “the circle of island life”, here you’ll find super sexy villas with curved edges and pools. We think it’s great that this is a modern property but it still pays respect to the destination and its culture through traditions such as welcoming guests with the blowing of the Sangu shell and the daily Maldivian sunset ritual. Instead of a butler, each guest is also allocated an “Aris Meeha”, which in the local Dhivehi language refers to a person who is assigned to take care of a royal member of a Maldivian family. They advocate that each guest is treated like royalty when staying here… and let us tell you, it definitely feels that way!

Kudadoo Maldives Addicted to Maldives Concierge

5. KUDADOO MALDIVES

Looking for something intimate? This private island experience was made with you in mind. There’s only 15 villas at this luxurious, all inclusive property. And when we say all-inclusive, we mean literally everything is included. We adore the freedom that their ‘AAA’ - Anything, Anytime, Anywhere - concept offers guests. It allows them to truly enjoy their holiday without worrying about the bill shock upon check out. The ultimate indulgence!

DISCONNECT TO RECONNECT - RELAX, RENEW AND RECHARGE

Wellness travel has traditionally been associated with luxury spa holidays. But as self-care has evolved into a daily goal, wellness travel is now taking a holistic approach and incorporating things like digital detoxes, healthier food options, self reflection and daily exercise.

Nature soothes the soul. It has a harmonious calming and rejuvenation effect, clearing our minds and creating new perspectives. Being close to the ocean has a way of deeply relaxing us and bringing us back to earth, which is why the Maldives as a destination has  many benefits on so many levels.

The Maldives plays host to some of the best spa facilities in the world. Showcasing a holistic approach to wellness and rejuvenation, many properties offer a wide range of treatments and programs to cater to all guests. Spa treatments at Maldives resorts are designed to awaken the senses, some with locally inspired and Ayurvedic treatments as well as offering specialised holistic programs with visiting practitioners from around the world.

Overwater Spa Villas, glass-floored treatment rooms and heavenly aromas are the just the norm in many Maldivian spas, enticing you to take the time to rejuvenate, detoxify and calm the mind and body.

Pic 1.jpg

One of our favourites, is the Iridium Spa at St. Regis Maldives . An oasis of tropical inspired sophistication, promises you a transformative journey.

Admire the ocean views from your spa bed and indulge in tailored treatments designed to relax and rejuvenate. The Blue Hole Pool is one of the most expansive hydrotherapy  pools in the Maldives. Positioned above the Indian ocean, heated seawater and whirlpool jets relax the mind and body while enjoying the endless blues of the water.

Our top recommendation here is the Lava Shell Massage. A body treatment using tiger-striped clam shells as a massage tool, filled with lava gel and activator liquid to produce heat that will gently relax and smooth away knots. Did someone say HEAVEN!!

Pic 2.png

Six Senses Laamu offers nest like treatment pods that are dotted along the beach or in lush gardens where you can hear and feel the ocean breeze wash across you.

An extensive menu of speciality treatments ensures your senses are balanced and your mind is blissful. Wellness programs to help with sleep, detox and fitness are unique to this resort and popular with guests looking to relax, rejuvenate and indulge in self care.

Nutrition is also key to your wellness journey. Nourishing your body with certain foods helps to keep your immune system strong. In the current world climate, this is now more important than ever. Organic menus created from locally sourced produce is becoming more popular in many resorts now.

Pic 4.jpg

At Soneva Fushi, wellness is at the heart of this luxury “no news no shoes” resort and sustainability is at the core of their philosophy.

Take a ‘Slow Life Journey’ and visit  the Soneva Fushi  Eco Centro and organic garden at Fresh in the Garden. This shows you the many ways that island grown coconuts are used for food and materials  for example.

Shades of Green has taken healthy eating to the next level with a plant-based Maldivian and Southeast Asian menu using Nordic cooking techniques.

Understand the design principles before picking greens and herbs for your lunch which are prepared to your liking. Who said Vegan cuisine had to be boring!

Pic 5.jpg

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is home to the Mandhoo Spa Restaurant. An organic menu is created using the five elements designed to affect the body, mind and spirit in different ways. An additional menu designed by nutritionist and best-selling author, Jessica Sepel is full of vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free options and takes a mindful approach to dining.

Taking things to the next level, Como Maalifushi delivers a Shambhala cuisine - a unique concept that incorporates organic ingredients rich in vitamins and minerals. Food is raw, steamed or grilled for maximum health benefits. Indulge in freshly prepared salads and energising juices to start your day right - a favourite of hours after an overwater  morning yoga session

Movement is another essential for good health and wellbeing. State of the art fitness centres at the island resorts allow you to keep doing what you love while you are away on your island getaway.

And if you’re not a “gym” person, why not start your day with sunrise yoga on the beach or a sunset pilates sesh in a magical overwater pavilion…or for those who are a little more adventurous, aerial yoga is sure to get you feeling the burn!

Pic 6.jpg

At the end of the day take walk on the beach, with the sand between your toes  and waves lapping around you . This simple pleasure has so many benefits to help you slow, recharge and rest well.

Disconnect to Reconnect and start planning your next journey to a balanced mind, body and soul. Let our Experts at Addicted To Maldives help you to create your next Maldives holiday.

It’s time to recharge and to find new inspiration!

THE NEW NORMAL - WHAT DOES TRAVEL TO THE MALDIVES LOOK LIKE NOW?

Like all countries in the world, the Maldives was impacted by COVID-19 and its flow on effect on global tourism. Thorough safety and hygiene standards and the country’s unique geography and relative isolation, however, have allowed it to resume its primary source of economy.

Since mid-last year, it has basically been business as usual in the Maldives – albeit with precautions in place – in the idyllic island nation. Some are even touting it as the travel industry’s poster child.

So, what does travel to one of the world’s most desirable destinations look like these days? If you dream of being on the next available flight to the Maldives, here’s what you need to know before you pack your bags…

  • The Maldivian government has advised that all tourists and short-term visitors must produce a negative PCR test result for COVID-19 upon arrival. The health document stating the negative PCR test result for COVID-19 must be in English and 72 hours prior to departure from their home country.

  • A COVID-19 safe tourism guideline has been issued by the Ministry of Tourism along with a certification program to uphold proper safety and hygiene standards.

  • Extensive measures have been taken by tourist establishments to ensure they are in line with these guidelines. Staff, for example, have been based on the island where they work, reached only by speedboat or seaplane.

  • On arrival in Malé, guests are flown by seaplane or escorted via speedboat to their resort with minimal contact. The Maldives’ signature “one-island-one-resort” concept means that visitors to the country are based in their respective resorts.

  • Having said that, split-stays are permitted between all tourist establishments that meet all compulsory requirements under the guideline approved by the local Health Protection Agency. Requests for approval of these split-stays should be submitted to the properties three days prior to the traveling date to facilitate arrangements.

  • Together, these unique arrangements make it easier for visitors to maintain social distancing, whilst enjoying a truly safe and secluded holiday.

Blog Pic 4.png

ARRIVING IN THE MALDIVES:

  • All tourists will undergo non-intrusive temperature checks and screening on arrival into the Maldives. You may also be chosen for a random COVID-19 PCR test by Maldivian Health Authorities. This is a voluntary test and paid for by the Maldives government..

  • Tourists who present with COVID -19 SYMPTOMS, such as temperatures, coughing, sneezing, runny nose or shortness of breath on arrival will be isolated and have to undergo a PCR test (at own cost). You may be accommodated in a transit facility until your PCR results have been received..

  • If only one member of a group / family traveling together presents symptoms, all members of that family / group will be required to be tested (at own cost).

  • Wearing a face mask is compulsory from the plane to the resort and in transit, including at the airport and on seaplanes / boat transfers until you arrive to your resort villa.

  • If you have a history of contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 within the past 14 days and /or persons who have a fever or respiratory symptoms such as a cough, sore throat, shortness of breath within the past 14 days, you should not travel to the Maldives.

  • All tourists are required to wear facemarks at the airport, during domestic travel and in all public spaces.

  • All physical distancing guidelines are clearly marked with visible distance information and floor markings on passenger terminals.  You are required to maintain a distance of at least 1 metre from other persons at all times. Hand sanitisation and hygiene facilities are also available throughout the airport.

Blog Pic 1.png

TRANSFER TO YOUR RESORT

  • Travel to your resort is as per normal with a representative meeting you upon arrival and assisting you with your domestic flight or transfer.

  • All tourists are required to wear a face mask and to use hand sanitiser prior to boarding your seaplane, domestic flight or speedboat transfers.

  • All travellers must maintain a safe, physical distance of at least 1 metre from other persons at all times.

  • Guest are encouraged to download the ‘Track Ekee’ application to assist the government in contact tracing.

Blog Pic 2.png

ON ISLAND AT YOUR RESORT

  • Each property is committed to providing peace of mind to guests so that you can relax and enjoy your Maldives experience.

  • Enhanced cleanliness standards reflected by the advice and guidance of the World Health Organisation, Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local health authorities are among many new routines at resorts.

  • Temperature checks will be conducted upon arrival at your resort.

  • Frequent  sanitisation of high touch surfaces and high traffic areas in public spaces and facilities will take place.

  • Strict food handling and sanitation guidelines and new service approaches at restaurants and cafes have been implemented.
Additional cleaning processes for daily housekeeping service during the stay and after departure and improved protocols around handling test items and laundry.

  • Cleaning and sanitisation of spa and fitness facilities, treatment rooms and equipment. Additional deep cleaning of all surfaces as well as appointment only access to wet facilities.

  • Social distancing will be practised in all areas of the resort and dining transportation.

  • Guest can expect reduced contact at check-in, cashless payments and frequent sanitisation of keys and key cards.

  • Face masks and other protective clothing will be used by hosts and are available for guests too.

  • Hand sanitising stations or dispensers are placed strategically at all guest and host areas.

  • Please note: some resorts have varied testing requirements once on property. Please discuss with your Maldives specialist.

5 MOST INSTAGRAMMABLE SPOTS IN THE MALDIVES!

It’s hardly surprising that the Maldives tick all the insta-worthy boxes – from #nofilter lagoons, that glow with every shade of blue, to beaches that are straight out of a castaway dream, this very special part of the world is seriously photogenic!

We love a gorgeous ‘gram here at Addicted to Maldives, whether that’s sharing a secret spot or a stunning snap from one of our favourite luxury resorts, or seeing our clients post their very own magical Maldives story. After all, we know that sharing those ‘wow’ holiday moments with friends, family and followers, is definitely part of the fun of a luxury vacay!

Spend some time at any of our Addicted to Maldives island beauties and it’s safe to say you won’t be short of a perfect shot to share – in fact, you’ll have a hard time trying to narrow down your feed-worthy potentials.

To help you capture the most awe-inspiring pics, we’re sharing some of our favourite insta-worthy spots in the magical Maldives….

JOALI .jpg

Overwater Hammocks at Gili Lankanfushi:

The blues of the lagoon at Gili Lankanfushi are truly mesmerising. Gaze out at the horizon from this very special island, and all you will see is a myriad of aqua, turquoise, and emerald-green shades, startling in their vibrancy. This is island paradise, at its most picturesque!

Alongside tall palms and long stretches of white-sand beach, are perfectly positioned hammocks, dotted here and there along the shoreline. Stop for a moment and take a swing, followed by a snap, to capture a moment of pure tranquillity, or, if you’re feeling more adventurous, wade out to the overwater hammock, located a short distance from the main beach area. Here you’ll find a net hovering perfectly over crystal-clear waters. Climb in, let your toes trail in the warm water, and watch in delight as tiny fish dart and dance below you. This is the perfect opportunity for a photo featuring you and those glorious Gili blues!.

GILI LANKANFUSHI .HAMMOCKJPG

Happy snaps…on Soneva Jani’s waterslides:

If you’re looking for a wow-worthy insta shot, you’ll adore Soneva Jani’s water retreats.  These breathtaking villas were dubbed ‘the most stylish structures ever built over water’ by Esquire Magazine and it’s easy to see why: each villa has glass-to-ceiling doors that open out onto an expansive private deck, complete with an infinity pool that perfectly echoes the infinite blues of Jani’s lagoon. This is open-air living at it’s very best – with endless water views from almost every single room in the villa, you’ll be able to take spectacular sunrise or sunset snaps from a dozen different vantage points.

The views don’t end once the sun sets - press a button on the master bedroom’s nightstand, and the roof above your bed will retract, allowing you to gaze up at star-lit Maldivian skies whenever you wish!

With so many awe-inspiring features, you’ll find yourself overwhelmed by in-villa photo ops, but for the team at Addicted to Maldives, our picture-perfect pièce de résistance has to be the upstairs deck, where a curved waterslide will launch you down into sparkling aquamarine waters. Snap a shot as you sit on the edge of the slide, poised to slide into utter paradise!

SONEVA JANI SLIDE.JPG

Breathtaking views….

The Blue Hole, Iridium Spa, St Regis Maldives:

The St Regis Vommuli, located in the beautiful Dhaalu atoll, is one of the most architecturally distinct hotels in the world, and has been wowing guests ever since its opening in late 2016.

The primary inspiration behind Vommuli’s design was the surrounding ocean environment – it’s overwater villas echo the shape of manta rays, the library is a spiral-like shell, and the Whale Bar, with its distinctive curved roof opening out onto an overwater terrace, perfect for sundowners, recalls the majesty of the mighty whale shark.

However, St Regis’s Iridium spa is our top-pick for ‘grammable views. Completely overwater, Iridium’s six treatment rooms stretch out like pincers (yes, the spa’s design is its lobster inspired!), each offering spectacular ocean views. As your tension melts away during your massage treatment, you’ll have a bird’s eye view of passing marine life via the glass floors below.

Make sure you bring your camera along when you head to the Blue Hole. The largest hydrotherapy pool in the Maldives, it sits perfectly over the Indian Ocean, offering a sublime relaxation experience. After the spa’s whirlpool jets and unique heated seawater have vanquished any existing tension, swim out to the edge of the pool – with endless water views stretching on towards the horizon, this is a photo op that’s sure to get your Instagram followers commenting!

St Regis Hydro Pool .JPG

Bathtub views…from Six Senses Laamu:

It’s hard to pick a favourite view at Six Senses Laamu. You’ll wake up to paradise when staying in your very own tropical playground located over the most beautiful blues. Robinson-Crusoe-esque in their design, these spacious overwater retreats are an ocean-lovers dream.

If we had to choose a favourite snap-happy spot at this island beauty, it would be a shot of the lagoon villa’s glass-bottom bathtub. The sunken tub is perfectly positioned and opens up onto the endless bright blue lagoon. A photograph taken here makes both sea and sky the star of the show. P.S keep an eye out for passing Dolphins, who often swing by Laamu’s turquoise waters during their daily morning commute!

Six Senses Bath.JPG

Breakfast #goals… at Kudadoo:

Kudadoo was named 2018’s best new luxury hotel by Luxury Travel Intelligence. The intimate resort offers 15 private residences, each villa features a private sundeck with an infinity pool designed to blend seamlessly with the glistening Indian ocean. Kudadoo’s Anything, Anywhere, Anytime, ethos ultimately grants every guests wishes to come true.

After an early morning dip in the ocean come back to your private infinity pool to indulge in a lavish breakfast spread of tropical fruits, pancakes, coffee and of course champagne, this is what instagram dreams are made of… Make sure you have your camera on hand to capture these #breakfastgoals like no other.

Keep your eyes peeled to spot a rainbow of fish life darting through the waters below.

Island Time: The Magic of Living in the Moment in the Maldives

A funny thing happens to time when you visit the Maldives. Like the coral-fringed lagoons that surround the islands, the precise and exacting minutes that normally count out an hour, or a day, seem to liquify into something dreamier…. a rhythm with a softer ebb and flow, like a gentle ocean tide, or the gradual rise of the sun over the Maldivian sea.

If you’ve ever visited a tropical island, you might have heard the expression I’m on island time. On the surface, ‘island time’ hints at a more relaxed approach towards the clock – where, as a traveller, you start to switch off from the demanding pace of the outside world, and the stresses of everyday life and begin to ‘unwind.’ But ‘island time’ also refers to something more meaningful – to the concept of time well spent, in a location that refreshes your mind, body and spirit.

It starts with a journey across the water. A seaplane flight that transports you over atolls that glow with tones of aqua, peacock blue, and ultramarine, or a speedboat journey, where bottlenose dolphins come to greet you as your vessel glides into the warm, clear shallows of the islands lagoon.

IMG_4645.JPG

As you step onto the dock of your new island home and are met by the smiling faces of the welcome team, the sound of the ocean fills your ears. A gentle sea breeze is in the air, and as you turn your head to take in the view of the white-sand beach, you can see tall palms swaying ever so slightly in the distance.

For a second, you wonder if you might just be dreaming, because it’s hard to believe that a place this beautiful actually exists….

A refreshing drink and cold-compress interrupt your reverie. Your bags are taken from you, and like magic, you’re on your way to your overwater villa. Your butler opens the door, and you find yourself giggling like a child as you excitedly dash for the front deck of the villa, where your very own infinity pool sparkles in the afternoon light. All you can see in front of you, stretching on into the horizon, is water so blue, it doesn’t seem real. Standing on the edge of your deck, you look down into the lagoon waters, and fish of every colour, dart and dance below you. Champagne is poured, and the rest of the afternoon is lost to laughter, wonder, and discovery, as you slip from pool to ocean, and back again.

Island time is all about getting lost….in a good way. Barefoot bike rides along paths that twist and turn through the island’s lush tropical interior. The sound of birdsong and ocean waves filling your ears, and the gentle warmth of morning sun on your shoulders.

An afternoon lost to a newly-discovered snorkelling spot, listening to the pop-and-crackle noises of underwater life as you watch a startlingly blue parrotfish gnaw at coral, anemones drifting in the gentle ebb of the tide, and a hawksbill turtle surfacing for air just in front of you.

Island time is taking your time. Leisurely lagoon swims or strolls along postcard-perfect sandbanks. Long lunches in the shade, your feet in the sand, a glass of rose (or two!) enjoyed with melt-in-your-mouth fresh seafood. Taking in a sunset from an overwater hammock, your feet dangling over the cool water, as clouds on the horizon turn pink and orange and gold over the Indian ocean.

IMG_5504.JPG

Island time is all about connection – not just with the rhythms of the sea and sun, or the wonders of your environment, but also with your loved ones. Whether you’re travelling with a partner, a family, or a close group of friends, the Maldives brings people together.

When time becomes less about speed, and more about the pleasure of the moment, connections deepen, and unforgettable memories are made.

Pool and Hammock.png

Family snorkelling sessions to find Nemo and friends. Early morning beach walks where the littlies study hermit crabs or spot passing eagle rays. Impromptu visits to ice-cream or chocolate rooms, that leave the whole family grinning with delight.

IMG_6985.jpg

For couples, the Maldives offers a way to relax, reflect and reconnect. Morning cuddles and coffee on overwater hammocks. Midnight dips in your private, infinity pool. Wine tastings that leave you just a little bit tipsy and giggly. Candlelight dinners by the shoreline, or over the water. Walks home at midnight, and kisses under the stars

TEst.png

We all need a place where time co-exists with connection, where we can experience the magic of living in the moment, with the people we love best.

We would love to help you discover the wonder of ‘island time’ for yourself when the world is ready to travel again…. contact the team at Addicted to Maldives to start planning today!

THE JEWEL IN SONEVA’S ECO-FRIENDLY CROWN: IT’S HUMAN HABITAT

Header.jpg

The creation story of Soneva is equal parts romance and fairy tale.

It’s about a British-born, self-proclaimed ‘accidental hotelier’, Sonu Shivdasani and his wife Eva, a Swedish model with impeccable taste, who created their very own idea of utopia. A world where their mutual passion for wellness, architecture, wine, travel, literature, art, and above all else, the environment, combine.

Story_1.jpg

Five years later, they opened their first resort on the island and named it Soneva (after Sonu and Eva) Fushi (which means ‘island’ in Dhivehi).

Story_2.jpg

Sonu and Eva are the founders of Soneva and their philosophy is imbued across every touchpoint of the business, however, theirs is not the only tale worth telling. Behind the success, sustainability and magnetism of the brand is a whole universe of dedicated, innovative individuals known as the ‘Soneva hosts’.

Hosts_1.jpg

Soneva is well aware that it’s the company’s hosts who have set up water bottling plants on their local islands, who run waste management training with their own communities, who teach local children to swim and introduce them to the wonder and the fragility of the ocean. It is through their hard work that the global blueprint for sustainable resort operations exists.

Since its inception, Soneva has supported the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-Corruption. These principles are measured and refined year on year, and in essence, highlight the company’s constant efforts to respect the protection of human rights; create gender equality in the workforce; emphasise local employment; and offer competitive salaries and desirable living arrangements for hosts.

Hosts_2.jpg

In 2018, Soneva unveiled an aspirational female employment target for its Maldivian properties, where the unemployment rate for female adults is three times that of males and where Maldivian women make up only four per cent of the workforce in resorts, compared to women constituting 45% in industries such as education, healthcare and the civil service.

Fathimath Shaazleen, or Shaaz as she is affectionately known, represents just one of the many success stories to come out of Soneva in the past two decades. Hailing from a local island in the Maldives, Shaaz began her career as a telephone operator after she passed her diploma in hospitality with distinction. In 2000 she joined Soneva Fushi in guest relations and two years later was promoted to Friday Supervisor. She left Soneva in 2004 but found her way back and re-joined in 2009 at Soneva Kiri in Thailand as Rooms Division Manager.

After moving back to the Maldives, Shaaz was offered the position of Resort Manager at Soneva Jani and then became the first Maldivian female to become Resort General Manager. Today she continues to be a source of inspiration for women – both local and foreign.

Globally, there are thousands of Soneva employees; all of whom play an equally important role in creating the iconic, inimitable Soneva experience. From resident astronomers, to marine biologists, environment officers, resident glass blowers, waste-to-wealth managers, wellness instructors, an enormous team of chefs and sommeliers, and the smiling, Robinson Crusoe-inspired team of Mr and Ms Friday private butlers, the humans of Soneva represent possibly the company’s most thriving habitat.

Addicted to Maldives have some very exclusive offers for Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani.

SONEVA, GUARDIANS OF THE NATURAL WORLD

Header.jpg
82d4a0d8-8825-4a60-ab91-7f7a5db6fc24.jpg

Inspired by a deep-seated conviction that luxury isn’t always synonymous with gold and marble, the iconic Soneva brand instead proves that opulence can be au naturel. The dynamic husband-and-wife duo behind Soneva, Sonu and Eva Shivdasani, believe that to live with sand underfoot, to bathe outdoors beneath a canopy of lush vegetation, and to dine under starry skies is what true luxury is all about.

During the construction of their flagship resort, Soneva Fushi, they refused to use any rainforest or unsustainable wood, and instead constructed the world’s first castaway chic resort from environmentally-friendly materials like bamboo, coconut and recycled wood instead. In doing so, they birthed the back-to-nature, barefoot luxury trend that has gained popularity globally over the last two decades.

Impact Assessment.jpg

In addition to their annual sustainability reports, this innovative tool allows the company to review the direct effect their resorts are having on the environment, as well as the indirect impact of their supply chain and air travel for guests; in turn positioning them to make better decisions, efficiently allocate resources and influence the business decisions of suppliers.

Nature-infused experiences that will make you believe in magic

From the smiling team of Mr. and Ms. Friday butlers, to the resorts’ sommeliers, gardeners and chefs, the committed and passionate hosts that make up Soneva are the real heroes of the company’s sustainability initiatives. These hard-working individuals are known affectionally as the Soneva Changemakers.

Speak to any of the Soneva Changemakers and they’ll tell you that they live and breathe by the brand’s SLOW LIFE acronym, which encapsulates the ideologies of Sustainable, Local, Organic, Wellness, Learning, Inspiring, Fun, Experiences.

Experiences.jpg

Guests can choose from a mind-blowing list of once-in-a-lifetime experiences that are designed to immerse them in the extravagance of nature, including a sunset dolphin cruise, snorkelling with mantas, stargazing at Soneva Jani’s overwater Observatory, embarking on a guided aquatic adventure, or catching an exclusive wave with the world’s first eco-surfing program.

‘Soneva Surf’ is an eco-friendly surfing experience that aims to be a model for sustainable surfing around the world where surfing gusts can select the experience that suits them, according to their level of expertise, time and budget.

Everything required for a day in the ocean, from rash guards to sunscreen and wax, is provided and is (of course) entirely eco-friendly. Soneva’s eco boards are made from poxy resin, bamboo woven mats, and bio-foam, which comprises materials converted from natural plant materials (soy, sugar, algae). Manufactured by an approved ECOBOARD builder, the production of these boards produces 40% less carbon dioxide emissions than regular surfboards.

Sustainabilty_1.jpg
Sustainabilty_2.jpg

All glass is crushed and re-blown onsite (in a professional, dedicated glass-blowing studio at Soneva Fushi) into decorations for the resorts or household items that are donated to charity. Both resorts create their own cooking charcoal and coconut oil, grow their own produce (fed by compost from resort waste and nutrient-rich water from water treatment ponds) in extensive organic vegetable gardens, house solar panels to save fossil fuels, and are absolute visionaries when it comes to plastic.

In 2008, they banned imported water, saving approximately 1.5 million plastic bottles since then. As part of their ‘Soneva Maker Programme’ and in partnership with global grass-roots initiative, ‘Precious Plastic’, Soneva recycles plastic that washes onto the resorts’ pristine shores, making a range of useful products like flower pots and building blocks.

Guests and resort hosts are invited to get creative with plastic waste and some of the innovative creations they’ve come up with include surfboards made from recycled polystyrene and Easter eggs for children made from plastic bottle caps.

Sustainabilty_3.jpg

Both properties also apply a small carbon levy to all guests to offset both direct and indirect carbon emissions across all Soneva operations. The funds collected from this levy go into various projects – from building wind turbines in India, planting trees in Northern Thailand, funding fuel-efficient cooking stoves in Myanmar, and supplying safe drinking water to thousands around the world.

Through the Soneva Foundation, the company has funded hundreds of environmentally-focused projects. Whether they’re overseeing the Soneva forest reforestation project; conducting biodiversity research with a team of in-house biologists; holding a SLOW LIFE symposia to promote environmental and social collaboration in local communities, or organising a larger annual symposium, which brings together the greatest academic, political and business minds for a partnership on the most pressing issues in the world, the team at Soneva are forever conscious of their footstep.

The Soneva quest isn’t about resting on the company’s laurels; it’s about striving for the only breed of hospitality befitting of our precious planet – perfection.

Addicted to Maldives have some very exclusive offers for Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani.

THE ETERNAL APPEAL OF SONEVA’S SUN-BLEACHED AESTHETIC

Header.jpg
Intro_ Copy.jpg

Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani are synonymous with the Maldives, embodying all the reasons people travel to the destination in the first place – luxury, relaxation and jaw-dropping scenery.

Where they transcend the destination’s median offering is in their unique and exceptional castaway-chic aesthetic. Thanks largely to the creative genius of Eva (one half of the famous husband-and-wife duo behind Soneva), the resorts are designed to both complement and protect their natural surroundings.

Constructed using native materials and paying homage to local ecosystems, these properties have become the zeitgeist of sustainable luxury, without compromising on comfort or attention to detail, and have been much celebrated and lauded for their design.

Bedroom.jpg

They are regularly featured in the annual Conde Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards and Gold List, along with each resort receiving a number of other prestigious accolades such as the ‘World’s Sexiest Bedroom’ title. Clearly, the brand has captured hearts around the world with its unique aesthetic.

Fushi.jpg

Boasting private beach access and blending seamlessly with the island’s swaying palms, all 59 villas ooze idyllic deserted island vibes and promise privacy and seclusion. Externally, they’re a study in voluptuous curves hand-crafted from whitewashed wood, with shingled roofs and understated architecture that allows the natural environment to shine.

Internally, they’re sophisticated, spacious, soothing and replete with cosy corners and hammocks to curl up in with a good book. An interior palette of greens and purples channels the surrounding Indian Ocean seascape, while furnishings made from all-natural materials such as wood, cotton and wicker are a constant reminder of the Soneva brand ethos.

With private pools, stunning outdoor bathrooms featuring sunken bathtubs and rainforest-shrouded showers set in an enclosed garden area, the villas at Soneva Fushi are as aesthetically pleasing today as when the resort first opened.

Jani.jpg

Wall-to-wall windows, whitewashed wood, sandblasted pine floors, white rattan furniture, decorations fashioned from driftwood or rough marble slabs, and sunken sofas with hand-dyed cotton cushions from Sri Lanka, culminate in a picturesque setting.

Some villas feature sundrenched lounge areas, walk-in mini-bars with espresso machines and personal wine cellars, lavish dressing rooms and sprawling roof decks, and many of the overwater villas also boast curved slides that transport guests directly into the lagoon below.

Thoughtful details such private plunge pools adorned with catamaran nets and open-air bathrooms create an ambiance that matches the resort’s tranquil setting. The standout feature of the water villas, however, is the retractable roof over the master bedroom, which can be drawn back in the evening for a truly one-of-a-kind stargazing experience from the comfort of bed.

MEET SONEVA - THE INDISPUTABLE ARCHITECTS OF BAREFOOT LUXURY

0_Header.jpg

In 1995, Indian British hotelier Sonu Shivdasani and his wife Eva reinvented the notion of island luxury with the creation of Soneva Fushi, the first ‘castaway’ resort to grace the crystalline shores of the Maldives.

Hidden among dense foliage within the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on the deserted island of Kunfunadhoo, the 59-villa resort pioneered the back-to-nature, barefoot luxury trend. Fusing the Robinson Crusoe fantasy with an intelligent approach to service, aesthetic and experience, it set the standard for island resorts worldwide.

Ahead of the curve since inception, the Soneva brand today comprises three resorts – two in the Maldives and one in Thailand – and is still an innovator and leader in the world of hospitality.

While there are many imitators, there will only ever be one Soneva.

Soneva’s famed ‘intelligent luxury’ philosophy is about knowing what luxury means for guests; many of whom spend most of their time in urban environments. It’s about understanding the minutiae of their daily lives and travel needs, and catering to them in a thoughtful, personalised manner.

1_Intelligent Luxury.jpg

It’s a unique concept that was borne out of Sonu and Eva’s desire to create dream destinations for those who like to travel in luxury, integrated seamlessly with their desire to protect the environment and local communities.

The truly memorable thing about Soneva’s two resorts in the Maldives – Soneva Fushi and its younger sister, Soneva Jani – is that in a region famed for its high concentration of ‘luxurious’ resorts; their approach to luxury is more than just a label or marketing term, it’s part of their DNA.

2_Lip Service.jpg

Each guest is made to feel like the most important person to have ever graced the resort (which was, of course, designed specifically to accommodate their every whim) and it’s this paradigm, as much as the lavish setting, that cultivates a sense of luxury.

3_Aesthetics.jpg

The chic and discreet décor of Soneva Jani channels Scandinavian restraint. Occupying five islets in the Noonu Atoll, this floating 26-villa paradise invites the outside in. Windows fold away, portholes in the floor reveal the marine life below and retractable ceilings unveil the starry skies above. The design is all about bright, open spaces and open-plan living.

Soneva Fushi’s down-to-earth personality is reflected in its nature-inspired architecture. The spacious, laid-back villas are adorned with thatched roofs made from palm tree leaves and feature generous, open-air bathrooms. Tucked among the island’s banyan and palm trees, they all feature private paths leading directly to the soft, white sand and unfathomably blue ocean..

4_Experiences.jpg

There are too many ‘must-do’ activities and adventures to list but for the sake of highlighting the magical opportunities available to guests, one of the most otherworldly choices is an astronomical dinner cruise. This incredible experience begins at sunset and features a four-course meal with wine pairings, while Soneva’s resident astronomer guides guests through the wonders spread above them across the night sky, sharing secrets of the cosmos.

For guests seeking unparalleled romance, the private sandbank overnight experience allows them to spend a night camping under the Maldivian skies on their own private sandbank in a luxurious Bedouin-style tent, which even comes with its own toilet.

To truly embody the Robinson Crusoe mentality, the castaway picnic whisks guests away to a lush, uninhabited island with a picnic basket and snorkel gear, where they’re left to enjoy their day in the sun in total privacy.

There are few resorts in the world that can match the memories guests of Soneva walk away with; and that alone is a luxury.

Addicted to Maldives have some very exclusive offers for Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani. Contact our team to make your way to your favourite Soneva Maldives Luxury Resort.

7 REASONS WHY WE'RE ADDICTED TO MALDIVES

Header.jpg

At Addicted to Maldives, we know there’s no place quite like the Maldives. With it’s white-sand beaches, towering palm trees, and crystal-clear waters, it is truly a place that exceeds your wildest dreams of island paradise. Beyond its jaw-dropping beauty, it is also home to some of the world’s most renowned resorts, which offer award-wining dining, world-class facilities and next-level luxury experiences, making the Maldives a destination that delivers on all its promises.

There’s a certain kind of magic you feel when you visit the Maldives, that’s very hard to put into words. It’s the type of magic that you need to experience first-hand, and once you’ve fallen under its spell, you just might find yourself planning your return holiday before you’ve even boarded your flight home…. which is a sure sign that you’re officially ‘Addicted’ to Maldives!

If you’re yet to discover the wonder of this unique part of the world, here are seven reasons why we believe the Maldives should be at the very top of everyone’s bucket list….

1.jpg

The colour of the water is truly #nofilter worthy – we like to describe it as ‘fifty shades of blue’ because the aquamarine, turquoise and aqua tones literally shimmer and glow in front of you when the sun hits the lagoon. You’ll be pinching yourself in disbelief the first time you see this effect for real!

2.jpg

The sophisticated and exclusive One&Only Reethi Rah, Joali, St Regis Vommuli and Velaa Private Island redefine the meaning of ‘indulgence,’ offering state-of-the-art luxury, elegant, expansive abodes, and intuitive staff that cater to every whim.

The Maldives is a place where every traveller is treated like royalty – there you’ll find Executive Chefs who create personalised menus, private butlers who are available to assist with any request twenty-four hours a day, and teams of dedicated staff who all work seamlessly to tailor your stay down to the finest of details. Once you’ve experienced the level of luxury offered by Maldivian resorts, all other holiday experiences fall short.

3.jpg
4.jpg

In an island paradise, there’s so many opportunities to create unforgettable memories as a family – whether that’s exploring the island via bike, chasing hermit crabs, heading off on snorkel sessions to find Nemo and friends, or enjoying ice-creams poolside at sunset - your family will find its new happy place in the Maldives.

5.jpg

During your stay, you might find yourself sitting at an exclusive six-seat chef’s table on a Monday, enjoying a matched-wine dinner in a subterraneancellar on the Tuesday, experiencing the romance of a sandbank picnic on a Wednesday, and dining on fresh lobster and champagne in an underwater restaurant on a Thursday!

6.jpg

A snorkelling session on the house reef will dazzle you, as you discover a kaleidoscopic underwater world of brightly coloured fish, (harmless!) sharks, gliding rays and curious turtles. Join a sunset dolphin cruise and watch as beautiful Spinner Dolphins come to surf the wake of the boat and show off their spinning skills, or take a trip to Hanifaru Bay, a unique biosphere zone that attracts large groups of majestic Manta Rays.

Deciding how you will spend your days…

The beauty of the Maldives is that you can do as much or as little as you like. This gorgeous, serene part of the world is the ideal place to relax and rejuvenate, but it is equally as suited to the adrenaline-seekers, the revellers and the family-focused travellers too. When you come to us for help in planning your trip, we don’t simply map out your itinerary – we inspire and excite you with tailor-made experiences that we believe you will love. The process is simple; we sit down with you and get to know who you are, what you enjoy doing and what this holiday means to you. Surrounded by crystal clear water, pure white sand and ocean as far as the eye can see, it’s easy to understand why the Maldives is often referred to as the most romantic holiday location in the world. This small collection of islands scattered throughout the Indian Ocean are the dream destination for many newlywed couples seeking a taste of luxury, seclusion and uninterrupted tranquillity. But with so many extravagant resorts to choose from, you might be wondering which one is best for your first ever holiday with your husband or wife-to-be. Here are our top three picks for the most incredible honeymoon resorts in the Maldives...

A beautiful Baros Sandbank wedding.

A beautiful Baros Sandbank wedding.

Milaidhoo Island

If you’re looking for a resort so seamlessly suited to sharing those special moments with your partner that they actually have their own ‘Perfect Honeymoon Package’, Milaidhoo is for you. This boutique island resort is nestled within the beautiful Baa Atoll and surrounded by a UNESCO biosphere reserve, meaning that you are always surrounded by the rare tranquillity of untouched Maldivian environment. In their honeymoon package, Milaidhoo provide newlyweds with experiences that you simply won’t find elsewhere in the world, from naming your very own star to being treated to a three-course candlelit dinner on the deck of your own picturesque waterside villa. Make yourself at home in any one of their remarkable accommodation options, whether it’s the charming Water and Beach Pool villas or the extraordinary Residences. Our pick is the Ocean Residence; sitting over the famously crystal clear Maldivian water, this space includes a private infinity pool, direct lagoon access, a dedicated butler and gourmet chef, as well as your very own outdoor living area that can be transformed into an open-air cinema upon request. Baros Maldives

Baros is home to romance that most people only ever dream about. And, as an ‘adult focused’ resort where children under the age of eight are not allowed, it provides an incredible escape for anyone on their first holiday as a married couple. Think private dining experiences atop their secluded ‘Piano Deck’ space, located off the coast just far enough for you to feel as though you’re the only two people in the world. Here you can enjoy gourmet breakfast as the sun rises over the Indian Ocean, or a mouth-watering five-course dinner as it sets around you, leaving a brilliant display of colours in its wake. Even their more traditional dining experiences – such as the one you get when you enjoy a meal at the Lighthouse Restaurant – leaves nothing to be desired, standing out in spectacular fashion as a truly memorable honeymoon experience. Often referred to as the best restaurant in the Maldives, take a seat on the deck of this outdoor pavilion and enjoy a delectable gourmet dinner paired perfectly with a glass of wine from the resort’s extensive range of world-class bottles. Each night you can retire to any one of their seven elegant villas, each option offering its own array of exclusive features including tropical private gardens and pools, open-air bathrooms and direct beach access. In all these unique experiences, you will find that a defining characteristic of Baros Maldives is its ability to make their honeymooners truly feel like they are living in their own secluded paradise from the moment they step off the plane.

Gili Lankanfushi

If complete seclusion is what you’re seeking, Gili Lankanfushi delivers it at every turn. Beginning with their unique, free-standing Crusoe Residences, you and your partner will be able to enjoy complete comfort minus the crowds of fellow travellers, as this private space is entirely yours. Accessible via your own personal motorised boat, these luxury residences include a relaxing overwater deck and your very own private hammock swinging atop the turquoise lagoon. When you’re not holed up in your own personal water-side sanctuary, choose from any one of Gili Lankanfushi’s romantic activities. Whether it’s dining at one of the resort’s delightful restaurants, spending your day indulging in exclusive therapies offered at their sensational spa or laying under the clear night sky on a rooftop bed with your partner next to you, there is no limit to the romantic options offered here. In fact, it’s not uncommon for many newlyweds to come back to Gili Lankanfushi even after they aren’t so newly-wedded anymore. What can we say? One trip to this paradise is never enough.

Finding the Perfect Resort for Your Next Trip to the Maldives

One of the most enticing elements of the incredible Island Nation that is the Maldives is its ability to cater to any and every guest that finds themselves on their powder white shores. Far from being a one-trick holiday destination that offers nothing but flop and drop style indulgences, you can plan your trip around experiences that you simply cannot find anywhere else.  Home to the most sought-after array of luxury resorts in the world, but here are our top picks that are perfect for four different types of travellers…

Cheval Blanc Randheli | For the spa lovers

If you are using your Maldivian getaway to indulge in some much-needed rest and relaxation time, there is no place more fitting to do just that than at Cheval Blanc Randheli Spa. Located on its own private island, all you need to do is jump on board a traditional Dhoni sailboat to access this elegant spa island. Here, you can enjoy an array of exclusive Guerlain treatments that cater to any indulgence you may be seeking that day. Revitalising citrus scrubs, soothing after-sun remedies and an oriental incense-infused therapy are just a few incredible options offered by this one-of-a-kind experience.

However, the treatments at Cheval Blanc are only the beginning. This all-encompassing spa also includes a large infinity pool surrounded by plush day-beds and swaying hammocks, so be sure to bring your bathers and a good book to truly make the most of this serene space. Or if you prefer to keep your body moving, opt for a yoga or pilates class followed by a meal of nourishing food from the resort’s mouth-watering gourmet menu. And of course, what would a relaxing day in the Maldives be without watching the gorgeous sunset over the Indian Ocean, a view that is particularly remarkable from this private island oasis.

Per Aquum Niyama | For the active traveller

If your idea of the perfect holiday involves adventure, entertainment and socialising with fellow resort guests, then the Per Aquum Niyama is for you. This relatively undiscovered surfing spot is the perfect place for beginners and experienced surfers alike to catch some incredible waves during the day. By night, you can enjoy Per Aquum’s fabulous underwater restaurant – one of only a few in the world – which transforms into a pumping nightclub late in the evening. Here you will find a variety of exciting events featuring world famous DJ’s, including the not-to-be-missed ‘glow party’.

If a more chilled out nightlife vibe is more your style, simply make your way to one of several bars, each with their own unique atmosphere. Dune is a relaxed beachfront bar offering a range of snacks and fresh drinks, making for the perfect Oceanside experience. Edge, on the other hand, is a stunning off-shore bar where you can enjoy a cocktail or two while watching the most incredible sunset you have ever seen as relaxed beats play in the background. At its core, Per Aquum is the perfect place for travellers who are seeking exclusivity and excitement in equal measure.

St Regis Vommuli | For the foodies

Holidays should be about indulgence, there’s no doubt about that. So which resort deserves to be at the top of your list when mouth-watering food is what you consider the ultimate luxury? At St Regis Vommuli, you can treat yourself to no less than six world-renowned restaurants serving a diverse range of cuisine.

The feet-in-the-sand experience at Crust – the resort’s rustic beachfront pizza shack – is perfect for those times when your stomach is grumbling but you don’t want to stray too far from the beach. This relaxed, patio-style eatery offers a huge menu of gourmet pizzas, which you can wash down with a fresh juice, cocktail or draft beer depending on your mood. Personally, we can’t get enough of the berry mojito and eggplant pizza.

If it’s a more polished dining experience you crave, then head on over to either Cargo – a Middle Eastern inspired restaurant with lamb cutlets to die for – or Alba, which specialises in Italian cuisine that has been reimagined by the resort’s world-renowned head chef. And then there’s St Regis’ lavish underground wine cellar, Decanter. Offering a customised, five-course degustation menu paired perfectly with champagne and wine sourced from the best vineyards around the world, this elegantly intimate restaurant is the ultimate foodie experience.

And how could we forget the most important meal of the day – breakfast. The best in the Maldives, St Regis offers a delightful array of a la carte options along with deliciously tempting French pastries, egg and pancake stations and your choice of cocktails made fresh for you table-side. No matter what pleases your palate, one thing is for certain; any foodie is in for a treat when you choose to spend your days at this fabulous resort.

Soneva Jani | For the family

The Maldives is the perfect place for a family escape; a secluded wonderland which has just as much opportunity for the kids as it does for the adults. While there is no shortage of resorts catering to travellers with kids in tow, Soneva Jani truly an incomparable paradise. Their water retreat and water reserve villas offer everything you need to feel right at home; a private pool, an open-air dining area and bathroom, your own personal butler and even a waterslide that takes you directly into the crystal-clear lagoon below.

When you’re not relaxing in your luxurious home away from home, there are no shortage of family friendly activities to enjoy elsewhere on the atoll. Jump on a bicycle and explore everything the Noonu Atoll has to offer, or enjoy the balmy night breeze on your skin as you watch classic feel-good films at the resort’s overwater cinema. And for a truly special experience your children won’t soon forget, head to the observatory to gaze up at the starry night sky as you enjoy a delicious family dinner.

For those moments where you may want to slip away for some ‘me’ time or enjoy a romantic experience with your partner, Soneva Jani’s unique yet educational Kids Club excursions are the perfect solution. Think reef exploration led by a marine biologist, learning about the native Maldivian flora and fauna on a nature walk or planting their own coconut trees.

Oh, and did we mention that the resort includes a free-of-charge, all-you-can-eat ice cream and chocolate room? It’s safe to say that from the moment you leave, both you and your children will be counting down the days until you return to this ultimate family holiday destination.
